The work is about question of how technology impacts human and nature, what part do human beings play in technology development and nature change, especially climate change.
This work creates an integrated space informed by the epistemology of I Ching. I Ching is a book about changing. It understands the world from a holistic perspective and regards man and nature as an organic whole that is interactive. Lighting is one of importance in untangling this work. In a ten-minute cycle, the space changes from light to dark is based on data from the History of Global Surface Temperature Since 1880. The sequence of lighting bulb draws the eight basic symbols of eight diagrams in I Ching. When the audience walks into the diagrams surrounded by eight wood branches, they are intertwined with these constituent elements to read the temperature and feel the changing.
Nature is not to maintain current status, but offer an endless environment and conditions for survival. With the continuous advancement of society, the rapid development of technology, more and more artificial things appear, nature cannot create and recreate as before. The idea of unity between human and nature from I Ching makes us to think about how human beings can coexist harmoniously with nature while developing at a high speed.
